Colourful Toucan's

While the olympics were on, we looked at the animals of the rainforest and found out some facts about them. For art, the children in room 11 made these wonderful toucan's. First they drew them using a black crayon and painted them with bright colours. Come into room 11 and check them out.

Daffodil Day

On Friday it was daffodil day and the children got dressed up in their yellow outfits to support the cancer society. The children in room 11 made a wonderful effort. Well done.

Mia comes to visit

Jacob's puppy Mia came to visit us. Izzy thinks that she was cute and soft. Destiny said "she licked me". Cameron said "I was scared of her".

Show and Tell

The children in room 11 are loving being able to bring something to school to share with their class mates. This is improving their speaking and listening skills. The children are encouraged to ask the speaker questions.  This week Joshua brought his magic set along to entertain the class.

Last maths winner!

Well done to Kendall who was the lucky last prize recipient for this week.

We hope you all have lots of fun playing the games you won with friends and family. Board games are a wonderful way to develop maths skills.

Discovery Time

It was such a lovely morning we decided to give the children the opportunity to make the most of the sunshine. Out came the balls, hoops, go karts, wood working table, target nets, sand pit toys, prams and vortex. It was great to see so many children sharing, taking turns and helping each other.

Reading Time

At reading time the children are involved in a reading rotation. In small groups they have the opportunity to take part in sound work, word work, reading to self, reading to a buddy, listening to reading, creative work or work on writing. We are very proud of how quickly the children settle to work and work together to help each other with their learning.
Logan and Ella were working to put blends and chunks together to make words.

Angel was tracing over the sandpaper letters to practice letter formation.

These girls were listening to stories on the iPad's.

Maths Week

Well done to all those wonderful kids who have been doing their maths homework for maths week. There have been lots of excited kids coming into class in the morning to share their work.
Logan was our lucky winner for Wednesday's draw.
Mikayla was very excited to be drawn out for Thursday's draw.

Thank you to Mrs Martin who has organised the questions for Maths week and to the PTA for supplying the amazing prizes.

Silly Frog

These fantastic kids tried very hard on their illustrations last week.
They had to:
Draw a hippo and a frog
Draw a pencil outline
Colour in carefully

Cats like to hide in boxes

On Friday we read the book Cats likes to hide in boxes. We decided to write a page on what the cat from New Zealand would like to do. Here are a couple of ideas that the children came up with.

The goat in a coat Poem of the Week

A fabulous illustration of our poem this week by Kimberley.
Look at the sad face on the goat after the shark had pushed him out of the boat.

Welcome to Term Three

Another exciting term has been organised. This term we will be finding out what the olympics are, investigating what to do if we have a fire at our house, learning how to keep ourselves safe and learning about interesting stories by New Zealand authors. We will be having our own mini olympics at school and hope to have a visit from the fire officers. We are excited to have been accepted into Duffy books in homes and also the Kids Can organisation.

Wig Day

    Room 11 Superheroes

   Room 10 Adventurers

The school had a wig day to help raise funds for child cancer. We had lots of wacky kids come to school. The children went to the hall and had a parade to show off our cool hair styles.  Well done to everyone that made the effort to come with wacky hair and made a contribution to the child cancer society.

Matariki Cloak

Next time you are in the office check out this fabulous korowai  that the children in Te Waipuna created to celebrate matariki. Each child decorated a feather to add to the korowai. Well done, it looks fantastic.
